Aged care plan for Hobart convent

Hobart City Council has recently approved conversion of the former Mt St Canice convent in Sandy Bay into aged care accommodation – but has made a number of changes to improve privacy for neighbours.

The Southern Cross Care plan to develop more than 70 independent living apartments and villas to accommodate 200 people – costing $30 million – has concerned a number of neighbouring residents.

Aldermen voted for amendments to improve privacy for those current residents, including limiting the roofline height of the new townhouses and constructing a wall or screen to ensure neighbours’ privacy.
