Aged care ‘opens’ doors to positive ageing
Aged care providers across Australia will open their doors to local communities on 19 June 2015 to celebrate National Open Day and the positive experiences of ageing.
Adjunct Professor John G Kelly AM, Aged & Community Services Australia (ACSA) chief executive, says Australia's residential and community aged care and retirement villages have an international reputation for innovation and excellence.
“National Open Day gives providers and staff an opportunity to showcase their services to their local communities,” Professor Kelly says.
“Aged care services are at the heart of many smaller communities and it is their presence that allows many older Australians to live longer in their own homes.
“The existence of aged care services must never be underestimated, especially as our population ages,” he says.
This is the second time ACSA, a peak body for mission based aged care providers, is joining with its sister organisations in the UK, Malta and South Africa and other countries to celebrate National Open Day.
“The Australian experience last year was overwhelmingly positive, with families, friends and volunteers joining with staff, residents and people receiving care in the community to celebrate all the good that happens in the sector,” Professor Kelly says.
“All families should have a conversation about ageing and your local aged care provider's Open Day is a great place for this to begin.”
The National Open Day is supported by ACSA National and its state associations.
