Aged care in translation
The Aged Care Complaints Scheme (the Scheme) has translated some industry and consumer resources into the languages identified as most relevant to Australia’s aged care industry.
New resources for staff include a video about complaints and some quick reference cards. There is also a translated video about the Scheme for care recipients, their families and friends.
Staff can now watch a video about complaints with subtitles in Hindi, Italian, Simplified and Traditional Chinese and Tagalog.
The video highlights the value of complaints and provides useful tips on how staff can manage complaints within the service and how they can help care recipients to raise their concerns with the Scheme if required.
People from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds are a growing group among older Australians receiving aged care services. About 20% of people aged 65 years and over were born outside Australia.
There are also new quick reference cards for aged care staff now available in Hindi, Italian, Simplified and Traditional Chinese and Tagalog. They cover areas important to effective complaint handling.
