Adelaide resident recognised for outstanding service to senior Australians

Minister for Ageing Justine Elliot has recognised Adelaide resident Joan Trembath for her significant contribution to improving the lives of senior Australians.

The Community Service Award is presented by the Minister for Ageing to individuals who provide outstanding service to older Australians, or to older Australians who provide outstanding community service. They may be community members, volunteers, carers, aged-care workers or administrators.

Mrs Elliot said Joan Trembath was a worthy recipient of the award due to her long and continued volunteer service in the local community.

“The award is an Australian Government initiative which is designed to recognise the contribution of people whose efforts might otherwise go unremarked,” Mrs Elliot said.

“For the past 11 years Joan has been assisting residents at El Kanah Nursing Home and Hostel. Now in her 70s, Joan still actively provides assistance and support to residents.”

As well as being the volunteer coordinator for the church, she also does a lot of work with the residents on a one-to-one basis.

“Senior Australians benefit from the tireless work of people like Joan and I encourage all Australians to take heed of the example set by today’s award winner,” the Minister said.
