ACT Chief Minister, Jon Stanhope, is pushing for grandparental leave to be set upin the territory’s public service, so older workers can take time off to care for children.
Under his proposal, those eligible could take unpaid leave to look after grandchildren up to the age of two for a maximum of 12 months, without fear of losing their jobs.
If successful, the ACT would be the first jurisdiction in the country to legislate for such a program.
