ACSA national awards for excellence

Aged and Community Services Australia (ACSA) has announced the winners of its annual Awards for Excellence, celebrating quality care and services for older people and those who provide this care.

National Award winners were presented to services and individuals from New South Wales, South Australia, Victoria and Queensland, including LHI Retirement Services, South Australia and Sue Sammartino, Lutheran Aged Care, Albury, New South Wales.

Runners-up, who are also formally recognised, come from Dubbo, NSW; Mitchell, ACT; Cottesloe, WA; Taroom, Qld; Geelong, Victoria; and Glenorchy and Hobart, Tasmania and embrace a variety of services such as the Australian Polish Community Services, Victoria and Leichhardt Villa, Queensland.

The Individual Award, was awarded to Carol Allen who recently retired from her position as General Manager of Chesalon Anglicare, NSW.

Judges included prominent philanthropist Baillieu Myer AC, Rt Hon. Ian Sinclair, Former Governor General, Sir Ninian Stephen, prominent business woman and journalist Ita Buttrose, Robert Fitzgerald from the Productivity Commission, and the Hon Rob Knowles, National Complaints Commissioner. All the winners and finalists nominated were outstanding achievers in the aged and community care industry throughout Australia.

ACSA’s 2006 Awards for Excellence in Aged Care cover six categories, for the outstanding individual; organisation, residential, community and retirement living; employee; volunteer; newsletter – professional and voluntary; and training innovation program.
