A voice for people using NSW health services
A state level, independent voice for people using health services will be introduced for New South Wales (NSW) so they too can fully participate in shaping health and reform within the state.
NSW was the only major state without this kind of consumer “voice”.
Health Consumers NSW (HCNSW) will join other Australian states’ peak consumer organisations to influence health policy reform and service provision.
“We will play a vital role in shaping a responsive health system – public and private – in our state,” said Sally Crossing, after the 18 August meeting.
NSW Health Minister, Carmel Tebbutt, funded the first meeting, indicating her in principle support of this real opportunity for NSW health consumers to be heard.
Representatives from 20 health related organisations which work with consumers, met in Sydney over two meetings and agreed to the establishment of the organisation.
