A Climb2Remember
Adventurer, Matt McFadyen, and businesswoman, Emma Lovell, are embarking on the adventure of a lifetime to climb Mt Kilimanjaro, while helping thousands of people with dementia in New South Wales (NSW) by completing the Climb2Remember charity challenge in Tanzania next September.
The pair have both lost a grandparent to dementia.
“In October this year my grandmother, Lilian Bracken, passed away from complications associated with Alzheimer’s disease,” said Mr McFayden, who is the ambassador for A Climb2Remember.
“Over the past few years I watched as this disease took over my grandma and her life and she slowly slipped away from us all. It was heartbreaking to watch as there was almost nothing we could do to help her.
“I also saw the emotional strain this disease took on my family and the people close to my grandma.”
Funds raised from the climb will go towards Alzheimer’s Australia NSW.
There are places available for others who want to join in the climb, which is Alzheimer’s Australia NSW’s first charity challenge.
Ms Lovell is scaling Mt Kilimanjaro in memory of her grandfather, Jack Lovell, who died from Alzheimer’s disease 2 years ago.
“This whole adventure will be in honour of him and in the hope of finding a cure for future generations,” Ms Lovell said.
“I wish my grandfather, who was living overseas, had have had access to the sorts of services and support that Alzheimer’s Australia NSW provides.”
