77-year-old lines up for Melbourne marathon
A 77-year-old Melbourne woman battling Alzheimer’s disease will be leaving that behind when she takes part in the 5.5 kilometre Melbourne Marathon on 7 October.
A veteran runner, Shirley Young, will be one of 15,000 runners in the 30th Melbourne Marathon and can boast of having competed in every single one.
Mrs Young has only one real concern. “I’m not sure if I’m going to beat the five-hour time limit imposed upon us this time, but I’ll do my best,” she said after a training run.
