2007 Churchill Fellowships – call for applications
The Winston Churchill Memorial Trust, which was established upon Churchill’s death in 1965, is designed to give opportunity, through the provision of financial support, to Australians from all walks of life who desire to further their search for excellence overseas. There are no prescribed qualifications, academic or otherwise, for the award of most Churchill Fellowships. Merit is the primary test, whether based on past achievements or demonstrated ability.
Churchill Fellows have studied such diverse projects as:
· the Neighbourhood Watch and Crime Stoppers programs;
· OH&S on farms;
· strategies to prevent computer card fraud;
· childhood obesity;
· people trafficking;
· criminal gang problems;
· physiotherapy in circuses;
· programs for ‘at risk’ adolescents.
In 2007 a number of specific Fellowships are dedicated to assisting health professionals, dealing with matters including prostate cancer, the care of persons suffering dementia and Alzheimer’s, enriching the quality of life of older Australians, oncology and cancer studies, the study of Parkinson’s disease and the delivery of palliative care.
Currently the average Fellowship is $25,000 and around 80 to 100 are offered each year.
Applications may be submitted until 28 February 2007. The closing date is absolute and no late applications will be accepted.
