$19m to help people with mental illness
The Australian Government has announced 51 grants totaling more than $19 million to help people with severe mental illness to participate more fully in their communities, via more than 6,000 places in structured social activity programs organised by non-government organisations.
The activities will encompass a range of social and life-skills opportunities, including computer education, cooking, and sporting and cultural pursuits.
The $19 million in funding was the first phase of the ‘Support for Day to Day Living in the Community’ initiative, which was announced as part of the Australian Government’s $1.9 billion Better Mental Health Services for Australia package.
