$1.9 million boost for Indigenous HACC
Indigenous Queenslanders are benefiting from a $1.9 million boost to Home and Community Care (HACC), Disability Services Minister, Annastacia Palaszczuk, said at the start of National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee (NAIDOC) Week (July 4-11).
Extra funding through a boost to the HACC program will see 21 organisations benefit.
“Many indigenous Queenslanders live in remote and isolated areas where it’s not always easy to access services.
“We want to ensure they’re getting the support they need to live independently in their communities for as long as possible.
“This is about helping people with everyday home maintenance tasks and providing them with transport. It can mean taking people to centre-based day care, transporting them to the doctor or helping them with their shopping.
“The funding will also be used for the delivery of nursing and allied health services.”
Ms Palaszczuk said around 4,500 indigenous Queenslanders were benefiting from HACC services across the state.
