$11.4m upgrade to council aged care complex
SA West Torrens Council’s aged care centre in Marleston, St Martin’s Age Care Facility, has undergone an $11.4 million revamp, which has increased the number of beds from 71 to 115.
A new 68-bed, two-storey complex has been built, and the hostel and nursing home have been refurbished. Every room now has an ensuite and all but four are single rooms.
West Torrens is one of only four SA councils to run an aged care centre and chief executive officer, Trevor Starr, said the council was keen to continue to provide a home for ageing residents.
“We wanted to establish an aged care facility which was of first-class standard, modern and met all the requirements,” he said.
Changes by the Australian Tax Office to how it treats residents’ assets means the council will receive $11.5 million in bonds, making the project fully resident-funded.
