The Tongala & District Memorial Aged Care Service Inc. is a charitable organisation owned and operated by the community of Tongala and District. It is an incorporated association under the Incorporated Associations Act (Victoria) (1981) and is a Public Benevolent Institution. It is administered by a Committee of Management elected by members of the association.
The organization was established in 1925 and operated the 12-bed Tongala and District Bush Nursing Memorial Hospital.
In the early 1980's the demand for acute private hospital care was declining and the need for residential aged care services increasing. As a consequence the organization undertook a major restructuring of its operations. In October 1990 the 30-place R.M. McHale Hostel opened. The 12-bed Hospital closed in December of that year. In March 1993 the 20-bed Koraleigh Nursing Home opened. In 1997 an extension of an extra 10-beds to Koraleigh was completed. In 1998 development of recreational and therapy facilities for Residents of the Service and the Community commenced with the construction of the Dick McGowan Men's Shed. An Activities and Consulting area facility was completed in February 1999.
In 2001 Deakin Village, with 15-independent living units became part of the Tongala & District Memorial Aged Care Service Inc.
The 10-bed R.M. McHale Special Care Wing opened in November 2001. The first four units of Memorial Drive Retirement Village were completed in 2010.
