Hakea is a home-style residence on the Rowethorpe site in Bentley, comprising six spacious self-contained units set around a shared lounge and dining area which Juniper operates under the National Respite for Carers Program (NRCP).
Hakea recognises that carers play a very important role in the support and well being of those they care for. Although this may be extremely rewarding, it can also be physically exhausting and emotionally stressful.
Regular breaks and assistance/support can help relieve this and can also be one of the most effective things they can do for yourselves and the person they care for. Breaks can also be invigorating as they offer new experiences for both of them.
Hakea offers respite by providing overnight care, similar to residential respite for the person with dementia, whilst their carer has a break for a period, at home or away. If the carer needs to go into hospital and receive care themselves, they are also welcome to stay at Hakea. The respite can be planned or an emergency need.
