Seniors take part in the sporting action

The Commonwealth Games me be done and dusted for another four years but the spirit of the games lives on in residents at Anglican Care in the Hunter Valley, New South Wales, following sporting action of their 4th annual Seniors olympics.

More than 250 residents, or athletes, aged between 80 and 100 years from a number of Anglican Care villages across the region were the events talented competitors who represented their pre-selected country, such as Switzerland, New Zealand, Canada, Australia, Fiji, The Netherlands, France, Italy and Scotland, in a series of highly contested events – including bean bag toss, lawn bowls, golfing, ten pin bowling and even Olympic trivia.

Anglican Care Marketing Manager Kylie Jacques says the Games even had their own official medal ceremony.

“Anglican Care’s Seniors Olympics is a highlight in many of the residents’ calendars – this is a must win for our residents,” she explains.

“But, on a serious side, the Olympics are an opportunity for our residents to participate in physical activities as well as some fun and laughter which is always good for the soul and your health.”

Anglican Care say it was a “really wonderful day” and that there were lots of laughs, a sing-along and that the most popular game was Kerplunk, closely followed by mini basketball.
