RSL LifeCare’s plans for $42 million new build in Tamworth

Plans for a brand new $42 million residential aged care facility in the New South Wales (NSW) regional town of Tamworth have been submitted by RSL LifeCare and are pending approval by local council.

TSA Management lodged the project, which will include a nursing home, dementia wing, retirement village and community centre, with Tamworth regional Council on 21 September 2017 on behalf of the aged care provider.

The application for the demolition of an existing building, and development of the new facility is planned for 372 Moore Creek Road, North Tamworth.

RSL LifeCare says they are excited to begin the construction of the new facility once council approval has been granted.

“We have lodged a Development Application with council and, pending their approval, we will be very pleased to commence construction in mid to late 2018,” a spokesperson says.

“The proposed development comprises a 60 bed nursing home, including a dementia wing.

“On the same site there will be a retirement village, providing around 60 homes and a community centre.”

Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson says with Tamworth being the ‘thriving’ regional city it is, the town continues to see significant investment from the private sector across health, manufacturing, small business and aged care.

“It is no surprise that a new aged care facility is being proposed for Tamworth, we’re seeing increased health services, the city is easily accessible by air, rail and road and the community is small enough to care and big enough to provide a great standard of living,” he says.

“Between the local council, Federal Member and myself as the State Member we work cooperatively and cohesively to ensure we continue to build the greatest regional city in NSW.

“It is pleasing to see that the hard work that is put into building a great city is recognised by private investors who are able to give older people the opportunity to enjoy their lives in a friendly and well-resourced location.”

The RSL LifeCare spokesperson says the proposed build falls in-line with the provider’s ethos and adds that RSL LifeCare prides itself on providing accommodation to all, and says older people and many of the people living with them are pensioners or on lower incomes.

“Tamworth is a major regional centre in NSW and RSL LifeCare wishes to ensure that older people have the chance to stay in their local communities and have choice about the support they receive,” the spokesperson says.

“This is part of our commitment to supporting older people throughout NSW, particularly regional centres.”

The village is expected to employ up to 80 people once it is operating sometime in 2019-20.
