Open to all 260 Uniting churches across South Australia, the successful grant applications will aim to benefit older members of the community through classes, tours, trips and other positive ageing initiatives.

Communications Manager for Uniting Church, Belinda Taylor says for Resthaven to give the funds to sponsor the grants is a ‘beautiful gift’.

“The churches successful in applying for the grant will use the funding to run and organise positive ageing and wellness programs in their communities,” she says.

“This could be a day out, an overnight trip or even exercise program – whatever it is it will concentrate around positive ageing.”

Resthaven Chief Executive Officer Richard Hearn says the donation for sponsoring the grants is in recognition of the organisation’s ‘proud history’.

“To celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the Uniting Church, the Resthaven Board chose to make a donation of $250,000 to sponsor the 40th Anniversary Ageing and Wellness Grants for projects centred around the wellbeing of older people,” he says.

“In supporting these grants, Resthaven is fulfilling our strategic intent to encourage positive images of older individuals, their contributions past and present, and their active participation and engagement in local communities.”

All Uniting Church congregations, faith communities and mission networks are invited to apply for the grants.

Projects must demonstrate benefits to older people, positive ageing, community benefit, and/or links to existing programs within the Uniting Church, Resthaven or the wider community.

Applications may also be used to further develop an existing project or to implement creative new initiatives, and more than one application may be sent per group.
