Mr Hearn has been the CEO of Resthaven since 1994 and made the big retirement announcement at Resthaven’s 85th anniversary celebrations in February.

Over his tenure, Mr Hearn has overseen the expansion of Resthaven, quadrupled the organisation’s workforce, and supported the move into the community services space.

“I’ve been fortunate to have been a part of the growth of the organisation, working with incredibly talented and dedicated people. But as I am in my 65th year, this is the right time for me to retire from this role,” says Mr Hearn.

President of the Resthaven Board, Mark Porter, has commended Ms Hearn for his 34 years of service to the company, adding that the success of Resthaven is a strong testament to his leadership, faithfulness and devotion to duty.

“Under his leadership, Resthaven has grown not only in its provision of residential and community services, but also in its reputation and standing in the community,” says Mr Porter.

“Richard’s genuine concern for the elderly, the frail and the vulnerable, along with his capacity to master detail, understand the changing landscape of aged care in Australia, and develop strategy are impressive.

“With the support of skilled management, staff and volunteers, Richard has led a mission-focussed organisation that is an asset to the community. He has advocated on behalf of the aged care sector in South Australia and nationally and chaired the UnitingCare Aged Care Network.

“Richard will leave Resthaven in a strong and commanding position to confront the challenges of the future with confidence and optimism once a suitable successor has been appointed and is in place.”

Resthaven is currently undertaking a national recruitment drive to find a replacement for Mr Hearn.
