The role within the office of the Aged Care Pricing Commissioner, which was first established in 2013, works to help ensure that people requiring aged care places are not overcharged.

Minister Wyatt announced John Dicer’s appointment to the role on 31 May, just 10 days after Mr Dicer commenced in the role.

“Older Australians need to be sure that when they need residential aged care support, they are paying a fair price,” Minister Wyatt explains.

“I’m pleased to appoint John Dicer as Australia’s new Aged Care Pricing Commissioner [he] brings with him broad public and private sector experience including a strong background in regulatory matters, compliance, risk management and complex pricing issues.”

In his role as the Aged Care Pricing Commissioner, Mr Dicer will manage the approval of extra service fees, the approval of proposed accommodation payments that are higher than the maximum amount determined by the Minister, and any other functions conferred on by the Minister under Commonwealth law.

Mr Dicer has taken over the role from Kim Cull who has held the position since the role was created.

“I extend my sincere thanks to Kim Cull, for her excellent services as the Aged Care Pricing Commissioner since 2013,” Minister Wyatt says.

“She focussed steadfastly on protecting consumers and standing up for the interests of older Australians.”
