Graffiti and street art tour teaches seniors how to ‘Grow Bold’

Embracing the Feros Care ‘Grow Bold’ attitude to life, the seven residents took part in their first graffiti workshop with Teazer and even left their mark with spray paint.

Participant and 96-year-old resident Nina Marzi was one of the seven who made the most of the artistic opportunity.

“Not everybody can be an artist,” Ms Marzi says.

“It’s the touch, the quality of the paint, what you want to convey in the painting; that’s the most important.”

As well as creating their own art, the residents also were inspired as they were taken to see Teazer’s local wall graffiti art where he and other artists go to practice.

Director Media and Marketing for Feros Aged Care Lisa Murray says all the residents who participated had a ball and would love to do it again.

“All residents involved were blown away that a spray can can create such fine work and this it is lovely to see art around on walls instead of isolated to an art gallery where only those who visit see the art,” Ms Murray says.

“Some felt they could really relate to that – graffiti makes a bold statement and that is how they want to continue to live their lives.”

The Popped Festival and graffiti workshop are just one of the many diverse and varied social programs offered by Feros Care and given the success of the program with Teazer, the organisation is already planning future projects with the artist.
