Queenslanders working within the aged care industry have been recognised, and some awarded, for excellence within their roles as part of State based Leading Age Services (LASA) Excellence in Age Service Awards.

The inaugural awards scheme was announced in January by the age services peak body as a way to promote and recognise excellence across the industry, with all state and territory winners moving on to be finalists in the national awards, set to be announced at LASA’s National Congress in Adelaide 28-31 October.

The aged care industry in Queensland is the third state so far to have award winners announced, following the LASA Tri-State event in February which saw aged care organisations, individuals and teams from South Australia, Tasmania and Victoria presented with the awards.

LASA Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Sean Rooney says the achievements by all the organisations, teams and individuals highlight the dedication of an industry passionate about providing quality care for older Australians.

“Our industry has countless unassuming professionals, volunteers and organisations who don’t generally look for thanks or praise,” he explains.

“It is their dedication and professionalism that make up the backbone of our industry.

“The awards celebrate and showcase the significant contributions being made to improving the quality of life of older Australians they care for.

“I congratulate all the nominees, finalists and winners of LASA’s 2018 excellence in Care Awards for their outstanding efforts and the contributions they make daily, not only to our industry, but to the lives of the older Australians they care for.”

The queensland winners across the three categories – Organisation, Team and Individual – are:

Organisation Award – Sundale Ltd (Sunshine Coast, Brisbane to Gladstone and west to Kilcoy)

Team Award – Healthy Connections Exercise Clinic, Burnie Brae (Chermside and Taringa)

Individual Award – Nicole Devlin, Chief Customer Officer, Ballycara (Scarborough)

The Queensland winners will now join the other state winners in progressing as finalists to the national awards which will be presented at LASA’s National Congress in Adelaide in October.
