Home is a feeling
Located in the City of Bayswater, Mertome Aged Care and Retirement Village is a 71-bed home specialising in high-level care and respite care, as well as dementia support. There are several communal areas including a dining room, lounge areas, a large activity room and a cinema room. There's also a hairdressing and beautician’s room.
Surrounded by the lush gardens of Mertome Retirement Village, the home has five internal courtyards where residents and visitors can relax in the shade and catch up over a cuppa. It’s within walking distance of Bayswater train station and other public transport links on nearby Beechboro Road. You'll often find residents taking walks on the pathways or sitting in the shade, enjoying the native Australian plants, rose bush gardens, water features and lawns. There are also raised flower beds, fountains, chooks and ample tranquility to enjoy. Socialising is often planned in the outdoor space with barbeques, outdoor games, morning coffee or just the chance to read peacefully.
The home was developed in the 1970s and was the first aged care complex created by a local government in Australia. The name Mertome is an adaptation of the name Merv Toms, a well-known local council member and former mayor. In 2019, Hall & Prior were proud to enter into a partnership with the City of Bayswater to continue to operate Mertome and are currently investing in refurbishing the home.
At Mertome, we feel privileged to be entrusted with providing whole-of-person health and care for older people living with a wide range of complex health issues. We strive daily to provide care that enables our residents to live their life to the maximum extent feasible, to exercise choice and decision-making, and to maximise quality of life and wellbeing.
