My Husband went into Respite for a week and he was only there 2 days. I instructed them to take his blood pressure regularly, their regularly is once per shift. In my Husband's case that he blacked out and vomited and was sent to the Hospital. He had a stroke which they could not have done anything about but I believe the whole process in getting him to the Hospital was delayed due to their lack of staff. And time is so important when dealing with strokes. I had never used Respite before and was forced to on this occasion because I needed an operation. Most of the staff are perfectly friendly and I'm sure they are trying their best. but there is only one nurse per shift and the carers don't seem to have much medical knowhow. However I don't feel this is the staff fault, staffing is an issue not only in this place but ultimately the entire sector.
