Set in the tranquil surrounds of leafy Bray Park in Brisbane’s north-west, Anam Cara, meaning ‘Soul Place’, is an innovative and award winning aged care community. Built in 2002, Anam Cara is home to 105 residents who live across six custom designed lodges interconnected with outdoor walkways, filling the lodges with ample natural light.
All rooms are equipped with air conditioning, flat screen TV and cabling for phone, ensuite bathrooms, built-in wardrobes and large windows with views of the leafy surrounds. Full laundry services are also available, along with buffet-style dining and the ability to cater for specialised diets.
As a resident living at Anam Cara you will have access to Wesley Mission Queensland’s own specialised residential aged care allied health professionals offering services such as podiatry, dietetics, physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech pathology. This provides a streamlined approach for care, with allied health staff easily and confidentially able to communicate with nursing staff to tailor support to your individual needs.
Specialist accommodation for residents with a diagnosis of dementia
Opened in 2019, Clear Mountain Cottage at Anam Cara has been developed with a foundation built on the Eden Alternative philosophy, providing a more intimate household model, where residents lead, guide and are fully involved in all areas of their life. In particular, the cottage has been developed to provide holistic support to residents who have a diagnosis of dementia and who are still able to be involved in daily life activities.
The home consists of eight bedrooms all with ensuites, a kitchen, dining area, living area, and a private garden with plots for growing vegetables and fruit. A selective colour scheme enables residents to recognise their own rooms, plus other communal areas of the home, while there are no ‘dead ends’ in the home, which helps to orientate residents and allow them to move freely and safely. The building includes state-of-the-art technology such as a nurse call system, Wi-Fi, and live streaming and assistive technologies. Pets will also be able to live alongside residents.
Care with heart
Living with Wesley Mission Queensland means living with friends in a loving community where the care is all about you. Wesley Mission Queensland was the first provider of aged care in Brisbane with the Sisters of Nursing in 1907 and established Queensland’s first aged care community in 1936. We are privileged to share in the lives of our elders and celebrate their wisdom and wealth of knowledge. When you enter one of our residences we take the time to get to know you personally. This ensures all staff can respond to your individual needs effectively and accurately, including medical, cultural, religious and dietary.
We provide quality meals to ensure your dining experience is an enjoyable and social one. Chefs regularly meet with our dieticians, nutritionists and speech pathologists to plan a range of delicious healthy meals, which are served buffet-style in our dining rooms.
Our approach to dining is flexible. Whether you want to dine with friends in the dining room, entertain family or guests in private dining spaces, or enjoy a quiet meal in your room, it's all about providing choice.
Anam Cara’s dedicated leisure and lifestyle coordinator is on-hand to create spontaneous, meaningful and exciting activities for you to take part in every day, regardless of your physical abilities. Anam Cara is conveniently located close to many community amenities in Bray Park with a bus service, hotel and supermarket nearby.
