Alwyndor is funded by the Australia Government, provide various types of therapies under Allied Health Services with a focus on Restorative and Wellness Program to help you maintain your independence and mobility for as long as possible. To be eligible community clients who live in City of Holdfast Bay, Marion, West Torrens & surrounding areas. Clients wanting to access any of the services below from 1st July 2015, are required to apply through ‘My Aged Care’ by calling 1800 200 422 or via the website.
Individually focused services which may be available to you under this arrangement include:
Physiotherapy – This service offers clinic based assessment and treatment. Home visits are arranged as needed & if assessment for mobility aid is required. Emphasis on pain reduction, self management and regaining and/or maintaining functional independence.
Occupational Therapy - This service offers assessment around the functionality, strategies for managing functional decline, equipment prescription, home safety assessments, assistance with scooter selection and training and coping with memory loss with support for carers.
Podiatry – Our service offers prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of medical condition of the feet and lower limbs. We specialise in the diagnosis of common skin and nail pathologies, as this plays an important role maintaining the mobility of older people and those with disabilities. We also provide ongoing monitoring of foot health in people who are considered to be at risk, in particular those with vascular problems and diabetes.
Speech Therapy – Speech pathology involves the management of problems in communication and/or swallowing, which may arise as a result of a stroke or other neurological conditions (such as Parkinson’s disease, dementia). Communication treatment may include activities to assist with improvement in: read, writing, speaking, understanding others, safe swallowing and food selections. A TALKBACK GROUP runs during the year to provide opportunity for conversation practice for clients with chronic aphasia as a result of a stroke.
Social Work – Our Social Worker provides assessments of psych-social needs, loss and grief counselling, help seeking community group programs and with residential care admission process.
Focus on Restorative and Wellness Program – We have a range of Therapist and/or Therapy Assistants who conduct a wide range of group sessions with a therapeutic emphasis. If you are an older person who needs some help to stay fit and healthy, such as help with your balance, or to recover after an accident or stay in hospital, then you may need this service. This service will focus on individual needs based on their assessment with a qualified physiotherapist. All clients will receive a six monthly review or more frequently at the request of a client or the allied health team. Clients utilizing our services re invited to gather in the Alwyndor Café after group sessions for a coffee and chat. The type of groups Alwyndor conduct are:

This program offers significant benefits to an ageing Italian person. Elderly Italians who attend spend time together participating in socially engaging activities, and enjoying meals together in a welcoming and friendly environment.
